Transportation Information

In preparation for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, we would like to be sure that you know the various transportation options available for daily travel to and from campus. The school day begins at 8:10 a.m., and we encourage all students to arrive on campus between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. to allow students adequate time to have breakfast (as long as COVID guidelines allow), connect with teachers and classmates, and prepare for the day. If you have any questions regarding any of the options mentioned, please feel free to reach out to me directly at the number below, by email at jdeplama@harveyschool.org, or schedule a meeting via Calendly

District Busing

New York state law requires that local school districts provide transportation to students living within 15 miles of a non-public school at no extra charge. Below are the New York school districts that bus students to and from Harvey. Forms are typically due to your district by April 1 and must be submitted annually.* If you moved into your district or enrolled at Harvey after the April 1 deadline, you should ask your district immediately to determine how to proceed. Specific questions regarding routes and health and safety restrictions should be directly directed to the school district transportation department

Metro-North

Harvey is located 2 miles from the Katonah train station on the MTA Harlem Line. Harvey offers students traveling by train shuttles between the train station and campus. Students arrive in the morning on the 7:31 a.m. train into Katonah and arrive on campus by 7:45 a.m. The shuttle departs Harvey at 5:00 p.m. in time for students to catch the 5:20 p.m. train home.

The MTA offers students a 30% discount on monthly commuter tickets through the Mail & Ride Program. Due to MTA requirements, you must complete our Student Ticket Registration Form to take advantage of the program. Once you submit your form, we will register your student for the program. Once that has been completed, you will receive two emails to provide your account number, PIN, and other pertinent information.  For specific question(s) about the Metro-North Mail & Ride Monthly School Ticket Program, please contact the Mail & Ride Managers at 212-340-3205.

Lower Westchester & Connecticut I-95 Corridor Chartered Bus

We have partnered with Red Oak Transportation to provide daily bus service to and from Harvey for our families that do not have access to district bus service from Lower Westchester County and Connecticut I-95 Corridor. The Port Chester-based Red Oak Transportation has proven to be a dependable partner that consistently provides safe, high quality, and reliable service to us and other Independent Schools in our area.

Buses will travel once daily to and from campus arriving by 8:00 a.m. and departing at 5 p.m.. The specific route and schedule are based on ridership and will be determined once all commitments have been secured and communicated in August. Typically, to ensure reasonable travel time for all students and accommodate as many families as possible, we do not offer door-to-door service but rather stops at central locations as determined by ridership. All enrolled students are eligible for this service, which ranges between $5,000 and $6,000 annually, depending on ridership. Contracts are issued by Red Oak Transportation and are between the company and the family.

To register your child for chartered transportation, please submit a transportation request form no later than Friday, August 5. Red Oak will begin building routes as soon as requests are received. In August, you will be notified of your route and cost, and Service will commence on September 6, 2022.

Carpool

Carpooling provides convenience and flexibility, especially when juggling after-school activities and sporting events. Please complete the Carpool Interest Form to let us know you would like to participate in a carpool. We will advise you by August 31. For questions and additional details, email transportation@harveyschool.org.
