Middle School Choral and Instrumental Programs

Dear Middle School Families:

The Performing Arts Department sponsors choral and instrumental programs for students in grades six through eight. All Middle School students are invited to participate.

Band and Chorus run during the same period, alternating each day with a common study hall that all Middle School students share. Students can participate in one or both of these musical groups without sacrificing other exploratory elective options and study hall time during the academic week. The Middle School Band and Chorus perform in our blackbox theater in front of an audience of family and friends throughout the academic year.

The Harvey School is committed to offering music and arts education. According to an article posted on PBS.org, “research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas.” The article goes on to explain that “making music involves more than the voice or fingers playing an instrument; a child learning about music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously.”
