Middle School Prize Night Honors Class of 2022
Posted 06/07/2018 04:24PM

The Harvey Middle School presented diplomas to 31 eighth-graders Wednesday night, June 6, and officially welcomed them as new ninth-graders in the Harvey Upper School. The students walked into Lasdon Theater to the traditional accompaniment of “Pomp and Circumstance,” and Middle School Head Dr. Brendan Byrne welcomed everyone to a special evening.

Dr. Byrne remarked on a year of numerous school closures and power outages which forced the Middle School students to relocate to the Upper School buildings for a time. “The students’ collective effort made it a smooth transition and set the tone for a successful spring term,” said Dr. Byrne, adding, “The students did far more than just survive, they have thrived.”

Head of School Bill Knauer gave some words of encouragement to the Class of 2022. “As you move forward, challenge yourselves, cultivate your passions, take chances, make mistakes, and learn from them,” he said. “Dream big. Have faith in yourselves and trust in your abilities to fulfill those dreams.”

The Prize Night Faculty Address was delivered by Dean of Middle School Dr. Stephanie Metz, who recently earned her doctorate. “Just think of all you’ve accomplished as a grade over the course of your time in Middle School - and this year,” said Dr. Metz. “From forming a debate team, to winning writing and literary awards, to competing in the National History Bee, composing speeches and reciting poetry, to winning a World Championship in Robotics.”

Middle School prizes were awarded and diplomas handed out. The Middle School Chorus sang a beautiful rendition of “A Million Dreams.” Following the ceremony, the class celebrated together in the gallery, joined by their family, friends, and faculty. We look forward to seeing them all in Upper School in the fall.
