The Harvey Upper School RoboCavs welcomed Shrub Oak Pack 38 Cub Scout Den 9 to campus May 23 to introduce them to the world of building robots and VEX robotics. When Bobby Gross, Harvey sophomore and member of our US robotics team, heard that his neighbor’s Cub Scout den was interested in learning about robotics, he invited them to come to Harvey. The five third-graders had fun seeing how robots work and testing them out in our robotics lab with the help of Bobby and Upper School robotics teacher, John Wahlers.
“It was cool to show them around and teach them about robotics,” said Bobby. “It was fun to get them inspired about robots.” Bobby shared that the young students, after being exposed to robotics, would now like to attend a school with a robotics program.
The Cub Scouts had a wonderful day and returned home with plans to raise funds to have robots at future meetings. They were very appreciative of the opportunity to come visit Harvey robotics and see all that a program like ours has to offer young students. Mr. Wahlers agreed that the visit was a success all around. “The kids thought it was a cool event,” he said. “The parents enjoyed it almost as much, if not more, than the kids.”
