Robotics Camp
Robotics Camp
2024 Robotics Camp
Open to grades 8-10
Campers entering grades 8 through 10 will learn to build, code, and operate a robot utilizing the components of VEX EDR V4, the same system used by many of the best high school and college competition robotics teams. This week-long program will feature a VEX Squarebot incorporating various sensors which the campers will code to interact with objects on Harvey's own 12'x12' VEX competition arena. The sensors include SONARS, bumpers, limit switches, shaft encoders, and more. Students will learn the basics of programming using the ROBOTC platform and will have their own programming computer for the week.
Meet The Director
John Wahlers graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He joined Harvey in 1997, and is currently a robotics teacher and the technology director. John and his colleague Chris Kelly began Harvey's robotics program in 2014. Harvey quickly developed a reputation as one of the top teams in the country, winning countless competitions and awards, as well as several state, national, and international championships in its first decade. Harvey competes in Vex Robotics, CREATE, and Bell AVR Drone competitions.
