How It Works

Terminology

Webpages: Individual class pages that provides updates on assignments and
expectations accessible through www.harveyschool.org.

Zoom: A video conferencing platform that will be used for class meetings through
https://zoom.us/signup.

Synchronous Learning: Learning with other students at the same time with a
teacher through an online platform such as Zoom.

Asynchronous Learning: Learning independently from other students and teachers
through posted assignments, videos, IXL, and through other resources.

Chat: Online platforms that allow students and classes to participate in ongoing
discussions, usually without video.

P.A.C.E. Yourself

Patience: We will need to be patient with ourselves, each other, and technology.
Agility: It will be important to be flexible and poised to make adjustments along the way.
Compassion: Being compassionate towards one another will help us all be successful in this new distance learning environment.
Embrace: Embracing this experience and knowing it will strengthen us and our community for the future.

Manage expectations and remain flexible. Technology will help a great deal but will
falter at times. Contact technology@harveyschool.org if you have problems with the
website or with Zoom. Be patient.

Create a productive workplace. Limit distractions and find a clear, flat surface prepared
with necessary school supplies.

Stay organized. Continue to use your planner and write down assignments and due dates.

Manage your time. Prioritize your work and schedule breaks as well.

Seek help when needed. Email your teacher with questions and set up a help session if needed.

How It Works

Faculty will continue to post assignments on their individual class pages and calendars on this website, as well as add links and documents to resources. The time blocks noted on the schedule are opportunities for each teacher to connect specifically with their students in the slots noted. If a teacher uses the slot, they will send out an electronic invitation to a Zoom meeting. Students should use their Harvey Gmail account to create a Zoom account (www.zoom.us).

Mute Yourself Right Away

As soon as you log on, mute yourself. This will avoid any excess background noise like
your dog barking. (You might find yourself automatically muted, but if not, please mute
yourself).

Remember, We See You

Wear appropriate clothing.
Your teacher can see if you are staring at your phone; do not let your phone distract you!
Stay at your workplace, as you would at your desk in the classroom setting.

Focus & Engage

It is easy to get distracted on your computer. Remember, this is a class. You are responsible for the material presented in class. Keep your Zoom open and do not navigate to other tabs unless directed by your teacher.
Make sure that the teacher is your main screen. If needed, you can pin the teacher to be the main focal point to ensure that you do not get distracted by your peers.
Have a question, type “question” in the chat feature. Follow your teacher’s directions about how to ensure that your voice is heard. Do not interrupt while someone else is speaking. Some teachers might alternatively prefer that you type in a question directly to the chat feature. The teacher may show you how to “raise your hand” in Zoom.
Do not take a screenshot, picture, Snapchat, etc. of your teacher or fellow students. Do not make any recordings. These behaviors violate our Acceptable Use Policy and will result in disciplinary action.
Do not interfere with your classmates’ learning. Please do all you can to support this process.
Remember that you are responsible for this learning, just as you would be if we were on campus together.
