On Friday night, Feb. 27, the Harvey track and field team closed out another successful winter season competing at the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Championship meet. Although the boys did not score, the girls earned three points and  tied for 20th place out of 33 competing schools. Of the eight events Harvey athletes competed in, they produced five personal bests (PR), including three school records

Three Harvey athletes achieved excellent school-record performances. Senior captain Mollie Weisberger demolished her 55-meter dash school record, lowering the mark to 7.93. Mollie also placed No.7 in the high jump, scoring two points with a leap of 4ft 8in. Senior captain O'Neil Ellis also bettered his 55-meter school record by the same amount as Weisberger, running 6.88. Harvey winter track coach Christian Coscio said Ellis’s performance was very notable. Coach Coscio said, ‘“O'Neil arguably had the best day, earning his 55-meter dash school record and a personal best in the 300-meter, running 39.51.” Junior Caitlin Savitt also established a PR in the 55-meter hurdles, running 11.27. Finally, ninth grader Ally Zimmerman took 2.5 seconds off her 1000-meter school record, racing to a 3:10.10 to finish No.8 and score a point for the team.

Coach Coscio was very pleased with the performances of his athletes. “Overall, we had a great day,” Coach Coscio said, adding, ” Our athletes performed well and ended their indoor season on a positive note.”

Many of the winter track athletes will now move on to soon compete during the spring outdoor season coming after the spring break.
