Several Harvey winter track athletes gave a good showing Wednesday, Dec. 3, in The Armory in New York City at the season-opening Ivy Prep meet featuring participants from 34 NYSAIS schools.

The meet’s top performers for Harvey were senior Mollie Weisberger and ninth grader Ally Zimmerman. Weisberger's top event was the high jump, which she won, leaping 4 feet 10 inches. Zimmerman, meanwhile, did well in the 600m and 300m events. In the 600m, she placed No.5, running 1 minute and 46.80 seconds and breaking her school record in the event. In her first-ever 300m, Zimmerman placed 15th but impressed with a strong race, breaking the school record with a time of 46.83 seconds. Her 300m time also achieved the provisional standard for the Freshman 400m Dash at Nationals.

Two other Harvey athletes earned personal bests in their events. Junior Grahm Bryant ran 7.90 seconds in the 55m dash, and sophomore Adam Hajem shaved 17 seconds off his 1000m personal best time, running 4 minutes and 03.87 seconds.

Harvey track coach Christian Coscio was pleased with the team’s overall performance in the season-opening event that he called “a bit of a rust-buster for the athletes.” Coach Coscio said, “With limited practice opportunities before this competition, we didn’t expect to see many personal bests, and we just wanted to see our athletes push themselves and hit solid early-season times.. A solid start to the season for them and the team as a whole.”

Harvey’s winter track team returns to The Armory Wednesday, Dec.10, for another Ivy Prep meet.
