Despite having the No.2 seed in the NEPSAC Class C championship tournament, Harvey had to hit the road and travel Wednesday, Nov. 12, to The Forman School to take on No.7 seed, Beaver Country Day School. But the Cavaliers did not let that inconvenience get in the way of success. They swept their opponents, 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

Harvey started out strong, playing with determination and a strong service game, jumping out to a commanding 13-4 lead. Beaver CD was having trouble getting the ball back over the net and Harvey made them pay for it. Serves kept flying in and the lead went to 17-7 before finishing with a solid 25-12 first set win. Serving success was extremely high with 23/24 landing in bounds. Casey Kelly led the way with seven serves, followed by Sydney Boothe making six of seven, and Sam Roberts making four in a row. Roberts added three assists and Kelly had two. Maeve Lazzaro led with two kills, and Peyton Forde added three digs.

The Cavs were prepared for a tougher second set and they got one. Serving success was sustained but Beaver CD played with significantly fewer mistakes. It was tightly contested up to 16-16. At that point Harvey was able to pull away and close the set out 25-20. Led again by Kelly with 10 straight serves of two rotations and Sara Strnad contributing seven straight over two rotations, Harvey kept the pressure on throughout the match.  Kelly added three more assists, with Roberts, Lazzaro and Strnad benefiting and getting one kill each.  Forde added two more digs to her total.

The third set was a nail-biter as Harvey started out strong to take leads of 8-3, 12-8, 17-11 and 19-13. With the score at 22-16, Beaver CD went on a run to knot the score at 22-22. Not to be outdone, Harvey got back on track. After Beaver CD missed a serve, Kelly finished it off with two strong serves to take the set 25-22 and close out the match. Carissa Rocco stepped in to serve in place of Sydney Boothe and started off with six in a row before missing, which helped get Harvey going early. Kelly added two more assists to her total, with Roberts, Lazzaro, and Strnad getting one more kill each. Strnad added two blocks to help the cause and Forde with five digs, Rocco with three digs and Kelly with two digs contributed to the win as well.

The girls were able to overcome Saturday's disappointing loss in the HVAL final and came in ready to play with grit, purpose and focus, showcasing their strong service game and their scrappy, never give up attitude.

The Harvey girls play host in their semifinal match against No. 6 seed Cambridge School Saturday, Nov. 15 at The Harvey School at 1:30 p.m.
