Harvey’s varsity volleyball team Tuesday, Oct. 7, took on the visiting St Monica’s Stormers, a home schooled team, in a highly competitive match. The final tally had the Cavaliers taking the match 3-1. Harvey dropped the first set 25-18 before sweeping the next three, winning by scores of 28-26, 25-23, and 25-19.

In the first set, the visitors latched onto the lead and Harvey had trouble sustaining any momentum. The serving was OK, and Sara Strnad contributed three blocks and Sydney Boothe had two of her own, but the offense was quiet except for Maeve Lazzaro's three kills.

Set 2 saw a momentum swing as Harvey battled throughout the match, to squeak out a 28-26 win.  Serving success improved, with Sam Roberts serving eight consecutive times and Casey Kelly making seven straight serves over three rotations. The defense stepped up with Peyton Forde getting three digs and Lazzaro getting four digs. Two kills and two blocks by Jadyn Lurie also contributed to the win.

Set 3 was also a squeaker, but Harvey's overall game bubbled up and they took the set 25-23. Serving was stellar again led by Kelly's 11 straight serves made over three rotations. The offense perked up with Roberts having two assists along with Kelly’s three. Kelly added four digs in addition to her assists.  Sydney Boothe was credited with three kills to lead the team and Sara Strnad added two more blocks to her total in set 3.

The girls finished strong with a 25-19 win in set 4, with stats galore. Sam Roberts added four assists, two kills and six straight serves over two rotations for a solid contribution to the match win. Peyton Forde contributed four digs. Strnad picked up three kills and made six straight serves over two rotations. Kelly picked up three more assists and three kills, while Boothe had five straight serves. Also coming up big was Lurie who picked up five kills and Lucy LaGattuta who had five digs as well. Talya Langer was strong throughout the match in serve receive and defense too.

Next up for the Harvey girls is a league match Friday at the Forman School in Litchfield, Connecticut.
