Harvey’s varsity volleyball team made it an extra-special day Monday, Oct. 28 with a 3-0 victory over Watkinson on Senior Day.
The Cavs hosted the league rival Rams for the second matchup of the year. It was a very special game for seniors Giselle Grant, Maria Marcos Muñoz, Emma Lederer, Emily Sorio, Sophie Peters and Jason Dempsey. All six were recognized in front of family and friends for their contributions to the Harvey volleyball program.
Harvey dominated in the first set, winning it easily, 25-10. All the seniors started the game and manager/coach Jason Dempsey led the team as honorary coach on this special day. The Cavs played a very focused game with high energy. Grant was outstanding with her serving. She scored 10 consecutive points.
In set 2 Harvey continued to stay poised. Defensively, the Cavs got their hands on every ball and created great offense out of it. Marcos Muñoz was very efficient from the middle spot, blocking and registering kills that helped the Cavs take the second set, 25-14.
The third set was more of the same with dominating serving. The Cavs capped off the day with a 25-16 victory in the final set.
The senior leaders in stats included Grant with 15 aces, Marcos Muñoz with eight kills and three blocks, Peters with eight digs, Lederer with two kills, and Sorio with five kills.
Harvey’s next game is Wednesday, Oct. 30, at home against Forman. The Cavs are 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the HVAL.
