Varsity Nets a Sweep; JV Navy Falls Short

Varsity Volleyball action

Harvey’s varsity volleyball team took all three sets from Westover School Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Middlebury, Connecticut..

Harvey held off the host team, 25-10, in the first set, 25-15 in the second, and 25-21 in the third..

"We had a good road win," said Harvey coach Denis Arnautovic. "We struggled a bit with numbers last week but I'm hoping that this game will help us get back into a competitive rhythm."

The Cavs improve to 5-2. They will host the St. Monica's Stormers Friday, Sept. 30.

JV Maroon Volleyball Edged by Stormers

The Harvey girls Maroon JV volleyball team hosted the St Monica’s Stormers Friday Sept.30.  Much like the navy team earlier in the week, the maroon girls came out serving strong and playing well to take the first set of a best-of-three match by a score of 25-18. Unfortunately, like the navy team, the maroon girls were unable to sustain the momentum, and lost the next two sets 25-21 and 25-18, and therefore lost the match 2-1.

Grace Shephard and Helena Kasarda played well at the net and served well, too. Maya Taub, Jasmine Zhang and Talya Langer contributed with their serving as well. “The girls fought hard and played well but came up just short,” said coach Kyle Groff.

The Maroons next match is scheduled for Thursday Oct. 6 at Harvey.

JV Navy Falls Short

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the JV navy girls volleyball team faced off against Westover for the second time this season and once again came up just a little short, falling 2-1.

Harvey started off strong, with their most complete set of the season, winning the first set 25-14. Strong serving from Lucy LaGattuta, Maeve Lazzaro, Tessa Walsh, Emma Lederer, and Phoebe Schwarz, combined with good passing, setting and hitting by all led to the first set win.  Unfortunately, the girls couldn't maintain their level of play and Westover raised their play to take the last two official sets 25-20 and 25-19.

"The loss was a tough pill to swallow, but in a fourth unofficial game, the navy Cavs picked up another set win, 25-12," Coach Kyle Groff said.

The navy team will return to the court Monday Oct. 3.
