On Saturday, May 16, Harvey’s  track and field team competed at the New England Prep School Track Association DIII Championships at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, Connecticut. While the boys did not qualify to score, the girls placed 12th overall, scoring 10 points, resulting in making it the best finish the team has earned in the five years since the spring program was launched.

Harvey’s two scoring athletes, who also earned All-NEPSAC honors, were senior captain Skye Watson in the javelin throw and ninth grader Ally Zimmerman in the 800-meter race. Watson placed fourth in the javelin, throwing 92ft 7 in, breaking her school record, which she had reset just one week ago. In the 800-meter, Zimmerman ran to a strong third-place finish, improving on her time from last year and posting 2:23.77, her best mark of the year in the event.

“Ally and Skye really stepped up and earned some tough points for us,” said Harvey coach Christian Coscio.

The coach also saluted the solid performances from the team’s other throwers at the meet, senior Piotr Pajewski and sophomore Evan Talenfeld, who both earned personal bests. Pajewski improved his discus personal best by three feet, tossing it 94ft 3in. Talenfeld added another nine feet to his javelin previous best, tossing it 106ft, ending the season by almost doubling his best mark from last year to this year, and becoming the second Harvey athlete to break 100ft in the event.

In the last event of the track season for Harvey, a small crew of qualifiers will head to Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island on Wednesday, May 20, for the NYSAIS Championship meet.
