On Saturday, May 18, Harvey’s track and field team competed at the New England Prep School Track Association Division 3 championship hosted by Marianapolis Prep in Thompson, Connecticut. Harvey coach Christian Coscio called the competition “a solid day for our athletes at the championship meet.”
For the boys, junior Felipe Torres placed well in his 3000m run, breaking his school record at 9:49.50. His eighth-place finish earned him All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention. At shot put, senior Olaf Gorski continued to improve, breaking his school record with a toss of 39ft 4.5in.
For the girls, seventh grader Ally Zimmerman ran a very strong personal best time of 2:35.17 in the 800m, which broke her school record by seven seconds. It is also currently the 10th fastest time for a seventh grader in NY State. Junior Shae-Anne Falconer had an excellent day throwing the shot put, achieving a personal best toss of 27ft 2in, good enough for fifth place. Her improvement was over two feet farther than her previous best and good enough to earn her All-NEPSAC honors.
The team will compete in its final season event, the NYSAIS Championship, Wednesday, May 22, at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
