Harvey’s track and field team ended the season Wednesday, May 24, with a fine finish at the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Championship meet held at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island in New York City. Although the girls did not score as a team, the boys scored 19 points, good enough to finish tied for 10th place and make some history along the way.

Leading the way for the boys were senior Luke Roberts and junior Olaf Gorski, the team's two scorers who made Harvey history as the first athletes to earn medals at a NYSAIS track and field meet. Roberts finished third in the high jump, where he cleared 5ft 6in., and came in fifth in the triple jump with a 40ft 3in jump. He also gave a fine performance in the long jump, breaking 19 feet for the first time with a 19ft 1.75 jump.

Gorski's personal best shot put toss of 36ft 8.25in was good enough to sneak out a point with an eighth place finish, but the highlight of the meet was his discus performance where, on his last toss of the finals, he threw a personal best 109ft 7in which placed him No. 2 overall in the event.

For the girls, ninth grader Mollie Weisberger stood out with her performance in the 100m dash. She ran a personal best time of 13.37.

Harvey coach Christian Coscio was very pleased with the team’s results. “I’m very proud of our team for finishing our competition well,” Coach Coscio said. He was particularly happy to see Roberts and Gorski earn medals. “It was a great and well-earned achievement for both of them,” the coach said, adding, “I’m proud of them and the team as a whole for a successful season.”

Although the Harvey team is officially done competing for the season, two of the team’s eighth graders, Aidan Garcia and Zach Roberts, will compete June 15-16 at the New Balance Nationals at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
