Harvey’s varsity golf team, winners of three of their six matches in 2022, came ever so close to capturing the HVAL championship last spring, finishing as the runner-up to Forman. Head coach Doug Plaskett wants another shot at winning the championship this spring. “It’s our goal this year to win it all,” Coach Plaskett said.

Harvey is looking to two returning players, sophomores Cade Gilligan, the team captain, and Rohan Singh, to help lead the team. “Their experiences from last year are critical to support the new golfers on the team,” Coach Plaskett said.

Evaluating his team’s strengths, Coach Plaskett sees a squad committed to the sport. “They are excited to play and learn the game,” the coach said, adding, “We’re young but hungry to compete.”

One newcomer in particular has shown a lot of promise in the preseason. Coach Plaskett has been impressed with eighth grader Theo Leyva. “He’s shown a great aptitude and nuances of the game,” Coach Plaskett said. “He strikes the golf ball with distance and consistency,” added the coach.

Sizing up the competition, Coach Plaskett said he expects Forman to be the team to beat. The coach said his team is looking with great anticipation toward the start of the season. “We’re excited to play our first match and get that under our belts with a victory,” Coach Plaskett said. “We plan for all our players to compete at a high level and put up low scores throughout the season,” he added.

Harvey’s golf season gets underway for real April 18 against The Masters School.
