HVAL Champs Impress at Prep School XC Meet in NYC

Hudson Chris

Fresh off their win in the HVAL Cross Country Championship race just three days earlier, Harvey’s boys went back at it Monday, Nov. 7, in New York City in the NYSAIS championship meet, running against top private school teams from around the Empire State. The race was held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Competing against runners from 18 other schools, the Harvey boys placed No. 6 behind Trinity School, Collegiate, Riverdale Country, Hackley, and Fieldston.

Harvey’s top two runners earned medals, senior Hudson Chris for his strong eighth place finish at 18 minutes and three seconds in the 5k and sophomore Felipe Torres who came in 22nd place in a time of 18:47.

Harvey coach Christian Coscio was very pleased with his team’s performance. “Coming back to compete in another championship race only days after the HVAL meet is no easy task,” Coach Coscio said. “The runners, led by Hudson and Felipe, showed they are capable of bouncing back and competing well. To place where we did against some of the best teams, not just in NYSAIS but all of New York State, is highly impressive. I‘m proud of how the athletes performed and excited to continue using this momentum as we head into the final stretch of the season.”

Next up for Harvey is the NEPSAC Championship meet Saturday, Nov. 12 at Marvelwood School in Kent, Connecticut.
