The Harvey School athletics department has named the top female and male student-athletes of the fall term. Director of Athletics Ray Lacen has announced that seniors Amani Carty and Wyatt Bland are the 2025 Fall Term’s top student-athletes. In making the announcement, AD Lacen praised Amani and Wyatt as “two of Harvey’s finest who strive for excellence in all they do and serve as exemplary members of the school community.”

Amani excelled in her studies this fall, earning a place on the Head’s List with a Cavalier Scholar designation with a GPA of 4.13. On the soccer field, Amani helped the Cavaliers win their first-ever Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) championship. The team MVP on offense, second in goals and tied for most assists, Amani earned HVAL All-League and All-NEPSAC selections and was named a WNEPSSA All-Star.

Harvey varsity soccer coach Dylan McDonough said Amani fits the true definition of a student-athlete. “Amani works hard both in the classroom and on the soccer field and always gives her best effort,” Coach McDonough said. “She has a strong understanding of the game and helped the team a lot throughout the season,” the coach said, adding, “Amani played an important role in our success, and it has been great to watch her grow.”

Wyatt Bland, also a Cavalier Scholar with a 4.28 GPA for the fall term, was one of the football team’s captains and its MVP, a player who wore many hats, contributing at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive end, linebacker, and kick returner. As the lead running back, Wyatt had a 4.8 yards-per-carry average and scored seven touchdowns. As a receiver, he averaged 16 yards per reception and tallied four touchdowns. As the kick returner, Wyatt averaged nearly 27 yards per return and scored a TD. On the defensive side, he recorded 36 tackles, 4 ½ sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. His all-around performance was awarded with an All-NEPSAC selection.

“Wyatt is, without a doubt, one of the most talented football players I have had the honor of coaching,” said Harvey varsity football coach Kyle Delaney. “His commitment to excellence in both football and academics is what truly sets him apart and makes him an exceptional scholar-athlete,” said Coach Delaney.

After each academic term, the Harvey athletics department selects and honors the top male and female student-athlete, recognizing their success at satisfying rigorous academic demands while practicing and competing in a varsity sport.
