Harvey got goals from six different players and ninth grade goalie Isolda Corena saved five of six shots as the Cavaliers beat HVAL rival Westover 6-1 Wednesday, Oct. 8 at home on RK Field.

Senior captain Mikayla Neave got Harvey going in the 10th minute with a goal assisted by junior Lainey Hanson. Junior Rylan Gilligan made it 2-0 Harvey in the 17th minute on an assist by her sister Mallon Gilligan, who, four minutes later, would score an unassisted goal. Sophomore Vivienne Stoller capped the first half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 38th minute. The Cavs led 4-0 at halftime.

In the second half, senior Amani Carty scored an unassisted goal in the 77th minute, and two minutes later, senior Chloe Eisenberg scored Harvey’s sixth and final goal with an assist from Rylan Gilligan.

Once again, Corena was solid in front of the net in holding Westover to just the one goal. The goalie had a lot of help from a stingy Harvey defense.

Cavs’ coach Dylan McDonough was pleased to see how well the team performed. “The energy was at a top level and everyone was working hard for each other,” Coach McDonough said. He also gave a shout-out to the players on the bench for their enthusiasm. “The bench was very loud today which gave the players on the field that extra energy to keep going,” said the coach.

With the win, Harvey improves to 5-2-1 overall, 4-1-1 against league opponents. The Cavs suit up again Friday for an away game in Litchfield, Connecticut, against another HVAL opponent, Forman.

In other varsity news, following the match, Carmen Massana Prat was selected as the recipient of the Spotlight Game’s Sportsmanship Award. Coach McDonough praised the sophomore for displaying “amazing positivity on and off the field.”  The coach added, “Carmen was constantly cheering on her teammates and encouraging them to keep going.”
