Harvey’s girls basketball team defeated Masters 39-29 Wednesday, Jan. 14 at home in a game that started off looking like a rout for the Cavaliers but ended up a much more competitive game.

The first half was a tale of two quarters. The first quarter was all Harvey as the Cavs put up 11 points to Masters’ nothing. When it looked like the offensive woes of the Panthers from Dobbs Ferry would continue in the second quarter, the visitors suddenly got hot and went on a 12-0 run while the Cavs scored only four points in the entire quarter. The two teams were tied 15–15 at the half.

Harvey righted the ship in the third period as the Cavs’ offense found its footing while Masters struggled as it did in the opening quarter. Harvey built up a 28-17 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Masters had a stronger fourth quarter but traded baskets with the Cavs throughout the final minutes of the game, keeping the Panthers from getting a chance to catch up.

Senior captain Peyton Forde led all scorers with 22 points. Senior Casey Kelly was Harvey’s second leading scorer with eight points.

With the win, Harvey improves to 7-2 (5-0 in the HVAL). Next, the Cavs travel Friday, Jan. 16 to Cornwall-on-Hudson for another nonleague game, this one against the Storm King School starting at 5 p.m.
