After a nearly three-week break from competition, the Harvey cross country team returned to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Westover Invitational hosted by the Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut. While Harvey’s girls did not score, the boys squad finished behind Wooster 17-46. Williams School also attended but did not qualify to score for boys or girls.

Harvey's top finisher for the boys was sophomore Sebastian Swindell, who ran a gutsy race and earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 21 minutes and 25 seconds. On the girls' side, ninth grader Ally Zimmerman won a close race, finishing in a time of 21:23, while sophomore Lilah Groff, in her first race this season, finished No.8, running a respectable 24:41.

Harvey coach Christian Coscio said the team “is feeling great about the results from Wednesday's meet.” He added, “Every single athlete who competed in the first race ran faster than they did a couple of weeks earlier, and many of them finished multiple minutes faster and earned new personal best times.”

Coach Coscio said he was particularly impressed with the team’s trio of ninth graders - Noah Carlevarini, Daniel Guerra, and Tagore Perez, who all ran significantly faster at Westover. Carlevarini ran 24:13, about 4.5 minutes faster; Guerra ran 28:04, about 7.5 minutes faster; and Perez ran 28:34, which was about 2.5 minutes faster. “While there is still plenty of room for growth, these results are encouraging,” Coach Coscio said.

Harvey runners will compete again Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Tarrywile Park in Danbury for the Wooster Cross Country Invitational.
