Harvey’s track and field program closed out its spring season Wednesday, May 22 with impressive performances by the Cavaliers in several events at the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) championship held at Icahn Stadium on New York City’s Randall’s Island. Representing Harvey was a small track and field contingent that saw several Cavaliers break school records and establish personal bests.
The boys' top result saw junior Felipe Torres break his school record in the 1600m run with a time of 4:53.79.Harvey coach Christian Coscio was impressed with Torres’ performance. “Felipe ran a tough race in sweltering heat, which was less than ideal for many events, particularly distance running,” the coach said.
For the girls, team MVP Shae Falconer continued her strong finish to the season, scoring in the shot put by way of finishing No. 7 overall. Her toss of 27ft 10in also broke the school record in the event. “Shae's excellent performance in consecutive meets shows she is a force to be reckoned with and sets her up nicely heading into her senior year,” Coach Coscio said.
Other athletes such as Sophia Beldotti (13.76), Caitlin Savitt (13.90), O'Neil Ellis (12.22), and Spencer Hanson (12.24) had season bests or personal bests in the 100m dash.
“The NYSAIS Championship meet was a solid finish for the team to an already great season,” said Coach Coscio, adding, “We’re happy with how the season finished and proud of this team for their efforts.”
