Girls Varsity Tops King

girls varsity basketball action

Harvey’s girls varsity basketball team collected a 62-43 road win Tuesday, Jan. 31, against the King School in Stamford.

Harvey led only 13-10 after the first quarter, but the Cavs’ offense exploded in the second quarter as they outscored the hosts 22-6 to put the Vikings in a big hole.

The Cavs led 35-16 at halftime thanks to their solid work on both sides of the ball. “Our girls were playing great defense, coming up with steals and turnovers, and on offense, they were coming up with great shots,” said Harvey coach Victoria Shopovick.

Harvey had a 24-point lead at the end of the third quarter before King found some momentum in the fourth quarter and outscored Harvey by five points. It was not enough to threaten Harvey’s big lead as the Cavs secured a 19-point win.

Junior Fernanda Alexandre scored  a team-high 15 points. Junior McKensi Forde had 14 while senior Kira Ortega chipped in 12 and ninth grader Amani Carty added nine.

Harvey improves its record to 12-2. The girls play HVAL rival Christian Heritage Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 4:30 p.m.
