Harvey’s boys varsity basketball team has suffered back-to-back heartbreak losses, falling 50-49 at home to Greens Farms Academy Wednesday, Jan. 17 following a 50-48 defeat Friday, Jan 12 to a visiting Capital Prep Harbor School.

Harvey got off to a promising start against GFA, taking an early lead before the offense went cold, allowing the Dragons to go up 23-15 by halftime. “We started early in the first half with good energy and took an early lead, but half way through everything seemed to have stopped for us – missed shots and hesitant play,” said Harvey head coach Denis Arnautovic.

Harvey came alive in the second half with junior captain Jonah Kass igniting the scoring for the Cavs and getting them back in the game. In addition to the efforts of Kass, Coach Arnautovic credited a few other players who brought a spark. The coach singled out junior Roger Garros Marti, senior Dylan Gueli, and junior Jackson Saccomanno for raising the defensive pressure which led to a few easy buckets for Harvey.

When the game came down to the wire, it was GFA getting the win in the second consecutive game in which the Cavs came up short.

"We got into our own way the last two games,” Coach Arnautovic said, adding, “We need to learn from this and move on."

Kass finished with a team-high 21 points.

The Harvey boys, who are now 7-4 overall, swing back into action Friday, Jan. 19 when they welcome HVAL rival Watkinson to the Fenstermacher Athletic Center.
