The Harvey boys varsity tennis team got back in the win column with a clean sweep of the EF Academy Tuesday, April 29. The hosts from Thornwood, New York, played a slightly different format of three singles, two doubles from what the Cavs are accustomed to, but they adjusted without a hitch by winning the match, 5-0.
Emmett Cahill earned the first victory of the day in No.2 singles, easily handling his opponent, 8-2. The No.1 doubles team of Graham Casey and Jake Lichtenstein followed shortly thereafter with an identical winning score. Stephen Millette, in his first match as a No.3 singles player, got off to a great start by going up 5-0. His opponent fought back to close the deficit, before Millette closed it out at 8-4. The fourth triumph came from the No. 2 doubles team of Logan Kreisberg and Jack Zimmerman, who earned Harvey's third separate 8-2 win. No.1 singles player Cam Lederer closed out the sweep with an 8-4 win in the last match.
"We were missing a few key players today, so I was glad to see several guys step up into new roles and have success," said Harvey coach Peter Everett. "This was a nice confidence boost as we head into our big rematch with Wooster this Thursday."
Harvey improved to 5-4 overall with the win, and their league record of 4-1 remained unchanged in the nonleague matchup. The Cavs head to Danbury Thursday to face league rival Wooster. The Generals won a narrow 4-3 victory the first time the two teams had faced off, and the two teams represent the top of the HVAL at this time.
