The Harvey boys varsity tennis team moved back over the .500 mark Friday, April 25, as they beat HVAL rival Christian Heritage School, 6-1. The occasion was further enhanced by the celebration of Senior Day as seniors Logan Alexander, Arav Shah, Jason Dempsey, Benji Cutler, and Gianluca Putek were briefly feted prior to the match.
No.1 singles player Cam Lederer got the Cavs going in the right direction with an 8-2 win, and Emmett Cahill was even more impressive in winning his No.2 singles match, 8-0. Arav Shah completed Harvey's singles success with an 8-4 triumph in No.4 singles.
All three doubles teams won comfortably. Logan Alexander and Jack Zimmerman won 8-1 in No.1 doubles, Stephen Millette and Jake Lichtenstein won 8-2 in No.2 doubles, and Jason Dempsey and Jake Martin won 8-1 in No.3 doubles.
"CHS was the only team in our league we had yet to face, so it was good for us to confirm our place in the HVAL with this match," said Harvey coach Peter Everett, who added, "We now know exactly what we have ahead of us as we aim to make it to the league championships in a few weeks."
Harvey moved to 4-1 in league play, and 4-3 overall with the win. CHS is now 1-2. The Cavs next travel to play nonleague opponent King School in Stamford, Monday, April 28.
