The Harvey boys varsity tennis team had its toughest match of the season Monday, April 28, as they lost to a very talented squad from the King School. In this nonleague contest, the Stamford, Connecticut Vikings hosted the Cavs and swept the matches, 7-0.
Unlike the typical eight-game pro-set that Harvey usually plays, this match was a best-of-3. . Logan Alexander and Jack Zimmerman were the best team for Harvey, as they were able to get five games in their 1-6, 4-6 defeat in No.1 doubles. The remaining teams struggled to get more than a game in either set with the exception of the No.3 doubles team of Jason Dempsey and Benji Cutler. They had a solid second set in their 1-6, 3-6 defeat.
“This was the strongest team we’ve faced this year,” said Harvey coach Peter Everett. “We’re hoping the tough competition gave us some good practice for the remaining matches left this week, all of which are winnable, ” he added.
Harvey fell to 4-4 overall, but remains 4-1 in the HVAL. The Cavs travel to Thornwood Tuesday for another nonleague match, facing the EF International School.
