Harvey’s baseball team saw its hopes of advancing in the New England Small School Small Schools Championship Tournament dashed Monday, May 18, in the semifinal round when the No. 3 seed Cavaliers lost 14-2 to the No. 2 seed Greenwich Country Day School.

The host Wildcats got all the runs they’d need when they batted around in the first inning to score six times. They put the game out of reach in the second inning when they tacked on seven more.

Harvey’s only runs came in the third inning on a two-run homer by junior catcher and team captain Dominick Bonserio. Besides the home run, Harvey only mustered two other hits, both singles, one from junior Jordan Scheppe and the other from junior Lucas Wernke. The Wildcats only had five hits but they took advantage of a total of 18 walks issued by Harvey pitchers.

Ninth grader Ilan Feldman was the starting and losing pitcher. Junior Stone Jacobs pitched the final 2 ⅔ innings.

Commenting on the game, Harvey coach Ray Lacen said, “Falling behind so early in the game exposed our shortened pitching staff and inexperience. We couldn’t string enough hits together to mount a comeback. I believe that the  younger members of the team will grow from this experience and use it as motivation next year.”

Harvey had received a berth in the New England tournament by virtue of having won the HVAL championship last week. The Cavs finished the 2026 season with an overall record of  8-7. They were 7-1 against league rivals.
