Cavs Open New Year with a Win
The Harvey boys varsity basketball team started the second half of the season with a 70-60 victory at home Wednesday against league rival Christian Heritage School of Trumbull, Connecticut.
Harvey jumped out to a 9-2 lead early in the first half, forcing the Kingsmen to call a timeout. When the visitors started hitting from 3-point territory, the first half turned into a shootout with Harvey holding on to a 37-34 lead at halftime.
The second half continued in its up-tempo pace as both teams were shooting 3-pointers and engineering numerous fast breaks, but it was Harvey who came out on top with the 10-point victory.
Everton Browne scored 30 points and 11 assists while Chris McGrath chipped in 21 points. Treshawn Felder, who collected eight points and Ryan Horowitz who had six, were a powerful force on the defensive side. They combined for 23 rebounds and nine blocked shots.
Harvey head coach Denis Arnautovic praised his team for sticking to the game plan.” I liked the pace of our game and the defensive effort," said coach Arnautovic.
Assistant coach Jack Mather appreciated the solid team effort. "Everyone on the court today did his job, which I'm very happy about, and so I hope we all can keep up the good work," coach Mather said.
The victory improves Harvey’s record to 4-4. The Cavs host EF International Friday.
