Varsity Gets Road Win; JV Falls in Away Match

Harvey’s varsity volleyball team returned home from Thornwood a winner Monday, Oct. 4, as the Cavaliers beat EF Academy 3-0.

Harvey easily defeated the host team, 25-13, in the first set. The second set victory did not come easy as Harvey and the Academy team battled in a back-and-forth contest before the Cavaliers prevailed 29-27. Harvey took the match with a 25-20 win in the third set to complete the sweep.

“The girls played well and were confident that they would win, but they let their guard down after winning the first set,” said Harvey coach Michelle Menacho. “Luckily, they were able to defeat their opponent and learned a valuable lesson about never letting their guard down,” Coach Menacho added.

The varsity Cavs go back at it Wednesday, Oct. 6, as they face Forman School on the road in Litchfield, Connecticut.

In JV volleyball action Monday, Oct. 4,  the Cavs team took on Kennedy Catholic in Somers. The Harvey girls started off with a barrage of successful serves that led to a 25-22 win in the opening game in their best-of-three match. The Kennedy Catholic Gaels, however, responded with their own slew of hard, accurate serving to take the next two games 25-7 and 15-2, to win the match 2-1.

“Our girls weren't able to match the accuracy of their game one serving, which made the last two games an uphill battle,” said Harvey JV coach Kyle Groff.

The JV squad's Oct. 6 match against Forman has been canceled.
