Harvey XC Primed for a Title Run
It wasn’t the race to determine the league title, but Harvey’s performance in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) Cross-Country Invitational Wednesday, Oct. 6, indicates the Cavaliers have a shot at taking the league crown when the championship meet is held in November.
Wednesday’s race, billed as the championship preview to next month’s championship meet, was hosted by Forman and attended by Harvey and its other league rivals Wooster, Christian Heritage, South Kent, Watkinson, Williams, Westover.
Competing with their top runner unavailable, Harvey’s boys finished second only 2 points behind Forman. Harvey was led by Will Hargreaves (18:42), Jordan Freund (18:56), Sam Alexander (19:30), Bennet Katzin (21:28), and Logan Alexander (21:53). Will finished No. 2overall and as the first team scorer while Jordan and Sam finished No. 7 and No. 8, respectively with Bennet finishing 20th, and Logan at No. 24. Harvey coach Christian Coscio was pleased with the boys’ performance. “The boys lost a close race, which can be disappointing, but they fought well while missing our top runner, who was unable to compete,” said Coach Coscio.
On the girls' side, Harvey placed No. 3 as a team. Madison Reckson (29:29), Sam Verdeschi (29:29), Sophia Beldotti (29:34), Gabby Feldmeth (29:26), Addy Shalov (30:36), and Addie Silva (32:31) finished as the 12th,13th, 14th,15th, 16th, and 20th scorers for the girls.
Coach Coscio was also happy about how well the girls did. “The girls continue to show amazing improvement and performed outstandingly,” the coach said.
Coach Coscio likes the team’s prospects in a try for a league title. “Wednesday’s meet was a great preview of what Harvey is capable of at full strength when it comes time for the championship meet at the beginning of November,” said the coach..
Up next for the Harvey runners is a meet Oct. 16, hosted by New York Military Academy.
