Theater
Create. Perform. Inspire.
Each year, students have the opportunity to perform a play and musical in our black box theater. Some of our students have a passion for theater, while many just want to experience being on stage and part of a cast performing live for an audience. Every student who expresses a desire to be part of a Harvey production can do so.
In addition to classes in Acting and Playwriting in The Upper School curriculum, The Harvey Performing Arts after-school program presents five stage productions each academic year on the Lasdon Theater stage. Here are some of our recent dramatic and musical productions:
The Neofuturistic play, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, is characterised by speed, audience participation, immediacy, risk, and chance. Under the pressure of a clock coupled with the unpredictable participation of an audience, our students performed 30 short plays within an hour.
In The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson’s world changes instantly when a school field trip reveals that Greek mythology is real and that he is the son of Poseidon. Sent to Camp Half-Blood, he meets Grover, a satyr tasked with protecting him, and Annabeth Chase, the quick-thinking daughter of Athena. Before long, Percy is accused of stealing Zeus’s Master Bolt, sparking a quest to clear his name and rescue his mother from the Underworld.
Harvey’s production delivered humor, adventure, and heart, with clever fourth-wall moments, nods to school traditions, and standout performances that showcased the creativity and dedication of the performing arts students.
