We believe a globally-minded curriculum and school community are essential to graduating students who will succeed and make an impact in a rapidly-evolving world.
We recognize that students will better understand and learn about our rapidly-evolving world when they can experience firsthand different countries and cultures beyond our borders. Harvey students have many different opportunities to study and gain exposure to foreign languages, cultures, and countries through our diverse academic program. Our International Program allows students to take this foundation and carry it out into the world for a much deeper and richer global education.
Harvey welcomes international students from all parts of the world into our full-year academic program, providing our traditional students with a culturally rich daily learning environment. We welcomed our first cohort of international students in the fall of 2013, and currently have a 5% international student population in Upper School.
Harvey Global Opportunities in Enhanced Studies Program (G.O.E.S.) is an independent educational opportunity for students with an interest in international studies. The purpose of the program is to illustrate the power of a global perspective by introducing relationships and opportunities for our students through a common project and travel to a partner school in another country.
Recent trips have included Denmark and Hungary.
Harvey students have many opportunities to study foreign languages and different cultures right on campus such as Spanish, Latin, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.
Each year, our students can participate in experiential and immersive trips abroad. In recent years, our students have traveled to Japan, China, Spain, Costa Rica, and Italy, enhancing their foreign language skills and allowing them to engage in volunteer experiences and cultural awareness up close.
Harvey offers programming that takes students out of the classroom and into the world at large. In the fall of 2017, we introduced our first one-on-one student exchange program with a visiting student from Barcelona, Spain. The exchange student lived with a Harvey student and her family while attending classes at our school. The next term, the Harvey student went to live with the family of the student she hosted in Spain and attended a local Barcelona high school.
Our next exchange opportunity will be in Denmark.
