Twelve Upper School students participated in the American Mathematics Competition 10 (AMC 10) Nov. 8, a national math competition covering topics of algebra and geometry that challenges students' problem-solving skills.
The students sat for a 75-minute math exam, with three students subsequently receiving the top scores for Harvey: Neel Mistri '27, Piotr Pawel Pajewski '27, and Ana Vizcaino '27. Also sitting for the exam were Lee Birch '27, Wyatt Bland '26, Joy Chen '26, Cici Feng '26, Henry He '26, Luca Nishimura '26, Richard Sullivan '26, Langston Townsend-Brown '26, and Kyler Warner '27.
"I am pleased with the student interest," said Nicole Tantillo, the chair of the Harvey science and math department. "We hope to continue to have good Harvey presentation in the future."
Ms. Tantillo noted that the AMC 8 competition for middle school students will take place in January. She commended Harvey Middle School math teacher Ms. Pitta for "being influential in ensuring the participation of Harvey students in competing at both the middle and upper school levels."
