Harvey Upper School Robotics traveled to The Mount Academy in Esopus, New York, Dec. 10 for Mount Academy's first time hosting an event at their school. Four Harvey teams competed.
 
"The Mount Academy was running its first event ever," said Harvey robotics coach and teacher John Wahlers. "The tournament was small, but the quality of the competition was very high."
 
Team 6277C with junior Katie McCulloch and sophomores Logan Alexander and Meaghan Sullivan went third  and fourth in the qualification matches, earning the 13th seed. They were chosen by the No.1 seed, team 97140B, Kennedy Gaels Too, from Kennedy Catholic School in Somers, New York They ran the table in the elimination rounds and were named Tournament Champions, qualifying the team for the Southern New York State Championship to be held at The Harvey School March 4, 2023.
 
Team 6277A with senior Lucas Vicente and junior Matias Sin went No.3 and No.4 in the qualifying round, then partnered up with Harvey's D team for the elimination round, competing as the No.9 seed. They won their Round of 16 match versus the No.8 seeds, team 78792K from The Mount Academy and team 19387A, the Resistor Cats from Wallkill High School.

Team 6277B with junior Blake Friedman and sophomore Ben Zilberstein finished No.6 and No.1 in early rounds, then were seeded sixth after the qualification matches. As a team captain, 6277B chose team 99561A, Ambush from Fallsburgh High School. They received a bye in the Round of 16, and handily won their quarterfinal match against teams 99561G from The Mount Academy and 18693A, the Wildcats from Rye Country Day School. Blake and Ben lost their semifinal match versus the No.1 seed.
 
Team 6277D, competing in their first event of the season, with seniors Alex Rynott and Eli Birch and junior Julian Marin went fourth and third, earning the 15th seed after the qualification matches. 6277D earned a spot as a captain in the elimination round, and chose Harvey's team 6277A as their partner. They won their first elimination match but were defeated in the quarterfinals by the No.1 seeded Harvey team 6277C and Kennedy team.
 
"Harvey teams did well, gaining our first tournament win of the season, and all our teams made significant progress," said Harvey Robotics teacher and program director Chris Kelly. "The dedication of these young people is inspiring. We are very proud of their accomplishments and look forward to a hugely successful year," Mr. Kelly said.
