RoboCavs Bring Home Design Award

Three of Harvey's Upper School robotics teams, the RoboCavs, traveled to Fallsburg High School Jan. 7 to compete in the Fallsburg VRC Spin Up Qualifier. All the Harvey teams competed well and had strong showings.

Team 6277B with Blake Friedman '24 and Ben Zilberstein '25 finished as the tournament runner-up for the second week in a row. Team 6277C members Logan Alexander '25, Katie McCulloch '24, and Meaghan Sullivan '25 brought home the Design Award, one of the three major awards at the event. Team 6277A's Alexandre Conoscente '23 and Lucas Vicente-Ruiz '23 made it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated.

Coaches John Wahlers and Chris Kelly are proud of their teams.

"Mr. Kelly and I volunteered at the event so our teams were totally responsible for being where they had to be and doing what they had to do. Each team had robot issues to contend with throughout the day, which is not unusual," Coach Wahlers said. "Not only did they work through these issues on their own, but Mr. Kelly and I witnessed numerous occasions where our kids helped other teams overcome problems of their own," he said. "At the end of the day, seeing our students resolve problems independently and display outstanding sportsmanship is our real award."
