Read All About it
One of the ways we welcome our ninth graders to Harvey is through our Signature Program, Ninth Grade Landing: Common Ground. This interdisciplinary course invites students to explore their place within three interconnected ecosystems: the natural world, the Harvey community and the world beyond it, and the ever-expanding landscape of learning.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, our Common Ground classes traveled to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for the park's Native American program. Students learned about the Lenape people's lifestyle, as well as their tools and toys. Additionally, the on-site teachers led conversations regarding the Lenape's relationship with nature and included an ethnobotany lesson in the wildflower garden.
The experience gave students an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom while building connections with one another and beginning to consider what it means to find their own place within the larger Harvey community.
