Harvey School News
Harvey senior Justin Polanco has signed his letter of commitment to attend Penn State York in the fall and play baseball for the Division III Nittany Lions who compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
The slick-fielding shortstop who has played on Harvey’s varsity since his transfer from Cardinal Hayes High School after his freshman year celebrated his signing Tuesday, May 17, with his parents, coaches, teammates, and friends on hand at a Fenstermacher Athletic Center ceremony.
Justin, a member of the 2022 HVAL champion Cavaliers, said he is fully aware that playing for a Penn State school is an opportunity many do not get, and he looks forward to competing for the DIII college. “I know I have to take full advantage of this opportunity and take everything I learn throughout my college experience into the real world,” Justin said. He added, “I’d like to recognize my parents for being with me every step of the way, as well as my coaches and teammates for pushing me to be the best I could be.”
Harvey’s varsity baseball coach Luis Lopez is happy to see his shortstop fulfill expectations. “When Justin came to us as a sophomore we expected great things from him as you can see with him signing with Penn State York, Coach Lopez said. “We’re all so proud of him and wish him the best of luck at the next level,” the coach said.
In his three years at Harvey, the versatile gloveman played centerfield in his sophomore year, third base and outfield as a junior, and shortstop this year. He said he appreciates the confidence Coach Lopez has in him, respecting his on-field leadership and his efforts to support his teammates.
As for his academic pursuits in college, Polanco is considering majoring in business.
