Jared Effinger '24 signed his letter of commitment Wednesday, Nov. 8 to attend Marist College and play lacrosse for the Red Foxes of Poughkeepsie.
At his mid-morning signing ceremony in the athletic center, Jared was all smiles, surrounded by family, friends, teammates, and coaches, and looking very happy to commit to Marist and play Division I lacrosse for the Red Foxes, the reigning champions of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The two-time New England Prep Division 3 Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year and an HVAL All-League and All-NEPSAC selection at the attack position, Jared set a single season Harvey School record of 72 goals and 30 assists for 102 points to help the Cavaliers make it to the HVAL championship game in the 2022 season. Along the way, he had recorded his 100th career goal.
Harvey boys varsity lacrosse team coach Mike Scarsella described Jared, a team captain and the MVP on offense, as “an exceptional lacrosse player and athlete who takes great pride in his preparation for games and puts in the extra work necessary to make himself and his teammates achieve at a high level.” Coach Scarsella said, "Jared leads by example and has high expectations for himself and those around him." The coach also said he appreciates that the team’s top offensive player “goes out of his way to teach the less experienced players and has a patient demeanor when helping others.
Jared said his signing “means the world” to him. “I have dreamt of this moment since kindergarten and can’t wait to play another four years of lax at a great school,” he said, adding that he wants to help Marist win another MAAC championship and credits his parents for his chance to play college lacrosse. “Without them, this wouldn’t be possible,” said Jared.
Jared, who plans to study business at Marist, is an honor student whose academic load in his senior year includes two AP courses.
