Commencement Dinner is a Harvey tradition for graduating seniors and their families, and on the evening of June 4 they joined the administration and faculty for a sit-down dinner to celebrate their upper school accomplishments and upcoming graduation. It was a time for smiles, reflection, and sharing some final hours as Harvey students on the cusp of commencement.
Senior speaker Julian Marin '24 chose to speak about "the value of determination." When noting life's difficulties, trials, and failures, Julian said, "Our determination provides us with the courage to confront these obstacles head-on and go past them." He added, "What defines the great from the excellent is this constant determination, this refusal to relax under pressure or give up."
Julian highlighted their individual differences while also celebrating their bond as a class. "Each of us has our unique story of how we got here, but today, we share a common chapter as we graduate," Julian said. He wished his classmates well as they prepare to move forward separately, but forever connected. "The future is yours to shape. I only wish you the best and can't wait to see you grow," he said.
Faculty speaker, history teacher and department chair Jessica Falcon, encouraged her students to "explore, work hard, and appreciate the experiences that come your way," she said. "You will find your own way in life and it may not be the conventional way, but always push forward."
Ms. Falcon shared the stories of a few individual seniors, noting she could go on and on about each member of the Class of 2024. "Everyone here has skills that the world needs," she said. "Just watch others and you will notice the knowledge they carry. You all now have the opportunity to continue to do well in the world."
Eleven seniors were recognized for being Harvey Survivors, having attended Harvey all seven years from grade 6 through grade 12.
