The Harvey School was honored to host Mrs. Hannah Holsten, a Holocaust survivor, to our campus Jan. 15 to speak to a small group of Upper School students from the Jewish Culture Club in Mennen Library. Mrs. Holsten lived a normal life in Nuremberg, Germany in 1938 with her mother, father, sister, and brother - until the Nazis came on Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass.

The Nazis destroyed everything the family owned, and Mrs. Holsten, her parents and siblings were rounded up and placed in an overnight jail. Mrs. Holsten shared her experience of a long, two-year journey, fleeing the Nazis, traveling all over Europe, and even being hidden by smugglers. Her story is filled with moments of unbelievable luck.

Mrs. Holsten shares her story today so that no one ever forgets the terrors of the Shoah, the Holocaust. She has been blessed with three children, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

While Mrs. Holsten's talk at Harvey was an intimate session, the visit was filmed and will be shared later with the entire school during a Morning Meeting. This way, every member of the Harvey community will have the opportunity to hear her powerful testimony.

We thank Mrs. Holsten for sharing her story with our students, teachers, and community.
