Three Harvey Upper School students attended the annual Medical Career Expo Saturday, Nov. 22, hosted by Northwell Health Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH). Ninth grader Hanna Choi, sophomore Lisa Kim, and junior Adrian Yang immersed themselves in this hands-on career development day, showcasing a wide range of healthcare career pathways across the hospital, representing more than a dozen disciplines, including clinical, operational, and support services.
Organized by the hospital’s Community Health Department and supported by hospital employees, this rapidly growing event provides students with in-depth insights into potential health-care careers, day-to-day responsibilities, and opportunities to ask questions directly to the professionals in the field. Depending on the specialty, each booth offered immersive, hands-on experiences, including demonstrations with the da Vinci® surgical system, blood pressure and vital sign assessments, and additional interactive simulations introduced for this year’s expo. In addition to physician and nursing pathways, students explored a wide range of professions essential to hospital operations, including pharmacy, social work, nutrition and food services, operations management, imaging, rehabilitation services, and even pet therapy.
The event welcomed more than 300 junior high, high school, and college students.
