In honor of Earth Day, 14 students from Harvey’s Community Service Club spent the day making a difference in the great outdoors. On a service trip to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on April 22, the group and club advisor Sarah Zeigler, partnered with Hailey from the Trailside Nature Museum to help protect local ecosystems by removing invasive plant species.

Under the guidance of Hailey, students worked to clear patches of lesser celandine, a non-native species that lacks natural predators in the region. Without intervention, these fast-spreading plants can overtake native flora and disrupt the balance of the ecosystem.

The hands-on project gave students an opportunity to connect with nature, learn about ecological preservation, and contribute meaningfully to their local environment — an inspiring way to celebrate Earth Day and Harvey’s ongoing commitment to service and sustainability.

Thank you to our students for their hard work!
