Harvey Upper School Robotics teams, 6277B and 6277C, competed at the Robot Rodeo VEX Signature Event held January 17-18 at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas. The highly competitive event featured 100 teams from across the country and provided students with the opportunity to test their engineering, strategy, and teamwork skills on a national stage.

Team 6277C was represented by seniors Ryan Dey, Jacob Harkins, Neel Mistri, and Sara Strnad, with senior Talya Langer unable to attend the event. Team 6277B consisted of seniors Wyatt Bland and Luca Nishimura, and junior Sullivan Wieting, with junior Jack Zimmerman not in attendance.

Team 6277B delivered an outstanding performance, finishing the qualification rounds with a 7-1 record and earning the No.8 seed heading into the playoffs. Their strong run came to an end in the Round of 16, where they were eliminated by the team that ultimately went on to win the entire event.

Team 6277C completed the qualification rounds with a 3-5 record. While the team was disappointed with the outcome, the competition marked their first event using a new robot, and the experience provided valuable insights and many positive takeaways for future events.

Coach Kelly praised the teams’ efforts, saying, “Competing at a Signature Event like Robot Rodeo is a tremendous experience for our students. I was incredibly proud of how both teams handled the pressure, supported one another, and represented Harvey with professionalism and grace,” he said. “This event showed just how much potential these teams have. Team B proved they can compete with the best in the country, and Team C took important steps forward with a new design that will only get stronger as the season continues.”
