The Harvey Middle School Robotics team earned a top 15 finish at the VEX IQ Rapid Relay Tournament at PS94Q in Queens, New York, hosted Jan. 18 by C2C Robotics.
Middle School robotics team members, sixth graders Elias Hajem, Riley Reichenberg, and Jasper Pons-Beltsyk, and seventh grader Noah Adams, have been hard at work since October 2024 diligently working on building their robot. They successfully built two robots to allow for practice sessions while also completing their engineering notebook.
Leading into their first competition of the season, Elias and Riley participated in the interview process via Zoom Jan.16. During the interview, they were asked about the challenges they faced with their robot and their strategies for the upcoming competition. "Both Elias and Riley demonstrated poise and confidence in answering the questions," shared Middle School robotics teacher Ananda Burra.
On competition day, the team collaborated well with other teams and handled minor motor issues with patience and adept problem-solving skills. Their hard work paid off, as they placed in the top 15 of the 34 teams competing.
"We're thrilled with their performance," shared Mrs. Burra and fellow robotics teacher Tom Smith '16. "We hope this experience strengthens their passion for robotics while inspiring them to continue competing in the future," they said.
Well done!
