Award-Winning Poet Pamela Hart Teaches Ecopoetry Workshop

Ms. Holmes' Upper School 10 Honors English students enjoyed the unique opportunity Nov. 16 to be taught by Pamela Hart, an award-winning poet and the Writer in Residence at the Katonah Museum of Art. Ms. Hart guided the class through an hourlong workshop on ecopoetry.

The project is sponsored by the American Academy of Poets in collaboration with B.K. Fischer, the poet laureate of Westchester County. During the workshop, Ms. Hart talked to students in the classroom and then walked them to the Cross River Reservoir Dam, about a 15-minute walk from Harvey's Middle School, during which they talked, read, and wrote poetry.

Many thanks to Ms. Hart for an engaging and educational lesson on how to write poetry with a strong ecological message or emphasis. With so much nature on and around the Harvey campus, students have rich inspiration to infuse their ecopoetry.
