Senior Justin Jaques signs to play D1 lacrosse

Harvey senior Justin Jaques will be attending Hartford University next fall and playing lacrosse for the Division I Hawks. He made it official this week when he signed his letter of commitment at the school with his family on hand to witness the joyous event.

"We could not be happier for Justin and the entire Jaques family,” said Harvey athletic director Ray Lacen who was present at the signing Tuesday, Nov. 16. “I know this is a goal Justin has had for a long time and now he is seeing it become reality,” A.D. Lacen added.

Justin, who joined Harvey’s varsity lacrosse program as an eighth grader in 2018, has missed the opportunity to play the last two years due to the interscholastic sports shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. When the Cavaliers return to action on the lacrosse fields this spring, Justin is expected to be a strong threat on defense as a long-stick midfielder. He can also be a weapon on offense with his long-range shooting skill and his ability to run well in transition.

While he is excited to play his final year for Harvey this spring, Justin is also looking forward to his college career. “Playing lacrosse at a high level in college is something I have wanted more than anything since I first picked up a stick,” Justin said. “I'm stoked to be able to continue the next four years of my journey with a great team and coach at Hartford,” he added.

Justin, an honor roll student, plans to major in computer science with aspirations to be a software engineer.
