Harvey Hosts John Wallace SpeakWell Camp

Harvey Hosts John Wallace SpeakWell Camp

The Harvey School has partnered with SpeakWell Youth Leadership and recently hosted the John Wallace SpeakWell Basketball Camp after school November 16-19. The camp was led by retired NBA player John Wallace, a Syracuse University legend. and first-round draft pick of the NY Knicks. As a SpeakWell role model, Mr. Wallace has spoken to more than 50,000 students across the country and leads countless basketball camps working with kids to build social, emotional, and physical skills.

SpeakWell and Mr. Wallace offer these after-school programs and camps to teach a positive mindset and practical communication and to build physically and mentally healthier students. This is especially important in the last year to offset the negative impact of the pandemic on kids.

"Overcoming fear, resilience, work ethic, teamwork, developing a strong mindset and effective communication - those are skills critical on the court and in life, especially now," said Mr. Wallace.

"At Harvey, we're focused on shaping minds and building character," said Dr. Brendan Byrne, head of Harvey Middle School and also a Middle School basketball coach. "We believe the John Wallace SpeakWell camp aligns well with our mission and is one additional way to help our students soar."

The camp ran from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. for four days and was a huge hit with the students who participated.
