Jeremy Sanchez Signs to Play College Baseball
Harvey senior Jeremy Sanchez will be playing baseball at Hobart College this fall. Jeremy signed his letter of commitment Wednesday, May 25, at a ceremony hosted by Harvey's athletics department and attended by his parents, coaches, teammates, and friends.
The starting shortstop on Harvey’s 2022 HVAL championship team, Jeremy will play for the D-III Statesmen in their first year of baseball since 1995. They will compete in the Liberty League and play their home games at McDonough Park in Geneva, New York, near the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
With his days at Harvey drawing to an end, Jeremy is looking forward to playing college ball. “Words can’t really describe how I feel, realizing that I’m going to play college baseball for the next four years,” said Jeremy, who thinks he’ll play as a middle infielder. “The Hobart staff actually invited me to a showcase before my commitment and saw me play second base and shortstop, meaning it’s up to them to decide where they think I’ll contribute to the team,” Jeremy said, adding, “Either way, I’ll be happy to have the opportunity to play for such a wonderful program.”
Jeremy, a Bronx resident, leaves Harvey with great appreciation for what the baseball program has done for him. “Playing for Harvey has been an exciting experience. I’ve learned about leadership and sportsmanship and how to become a better teammate, and this all led to us winning back-to-back HVAL championships.”
Sanchez had a terrific spring for Harvey this championship season. He batted a robust .391 with 16 hits and 17 RBIs in 18 games and registered an excellent on-base percentage of .455. He made only four errors in the field.
Coach Lopez says Hobart is getting a good player, solid student, and quality individual. “It’s been a pleasure to have coached Jeremy all these years,” Coach Lopez said. “He’s a great student and teammate and became a complete ball player as he leaves to play at Hobart,” the coach said.
An honor roll student, Jeremy plans to major in psychology at Hobart.
