Harvey senior Josh Hoch, who saw his final high school lacrosse season canceled by the coronavirus pandemic, has signed his commitment letter to attend Albright College and play for the Division III Lions of Reading, Pennsylvania.

A member of the Harvey varsity lacrosse team since eighth grade, Josh has developed into a solid player on both ends of the field, excelling both as a defenseman and as a long-stick midfielder. His coach, Jason Hill, said Josh is most deserving of the “Ironman” award he received in his junior year. “Josh’s passion for the game is evident in his dedication to his team and his play on the field,” Coach Hill said, adding, “He never missed a game or practice and was a regular “go-to guy” when it came to matching up with the better attack-men on the opposing team.”

Reflecting on his years as a Cavalier, Josh said his time at Harvey taught him the value of leadership, and he acknowledged Coach Hill, who is also his academic advisor and science teacher, as having made a significant impact on his life. “I credit Mr. Hill for a lot of the growth I have had as a person and as a lacrosse player,” Josh said. 

Coach Hill is excited at the thought of Josh playing college lacrosse. " We look forward to seeing Josh develop into a college athlete in the seasons to come,” said the coach.

Despite missing his last full season of playing his favorite sport at Harvey, Josh said he will be ready when lacrosse activities start at Albright. “I've been watching a ton of film, going for jogs, and doing small workouts with the limited resources I have while everything has been closed,” Josh said. “Even if it’s just cradling a ball while walking around the house, it's a great way to get comfortable and stay comfortable with your stick,” he added.

Josh feels fortunate to be able to play lacrosse in college when many other LAX seniors across the country had to see their playing days end when their high schools canceled the spring season. “I'm very lucky to be able to play at the next level, but many seniors don't have that opportunity and this year might have been the last year they'd ever touch a lacrosse stick. Those are the people who I truly feel bad for and am heartbroken for.”

As for his academic pursuits at Albright, Josh plans to major in business management. We're proud of you, Josh!
